Rare Book Room

Approximately 10,000 well-preserved rare books from Japan, China and Europe are housed in the Rare Book Room on the 5F of the New Building. Books predating the early Edo Period form the nucleus of the Japanese collection, while pre-17th century manuscripts and printed books make up the European collection.

Hours

Monday to Friday: 9:00-11:30 and 12:30-16:30

Procedure for Visitors

The Rare Book Room is open to all researchers, whether or not they are affiliated with Keio University. Keio University students must obtain a letter of introduction from their advisors to use the room. Persons from outside the University must present a letter of introduction from their own university library. Other arrangements may be made for researchers who are not affiliated with any university; please make an appointment before visiting the Library. The material(s) requested will be available from about a week after the day of application.
