Audio Visuaul Corner

Audio Visual Corner has an AV Booths and Video Conference Booths.
AV Booths has seats for single-person and sofa seats that can be used by multiple people. In these booths, library audiovisual materials (DVD, video, laser disc, CD, etc.) can be used.
Video Conference Booths are single-person seats for online classes or online meetings with talks.

Sofa booths: 2 seats *Up to 4 people can view the same material at the same time.
You can also watch materials you bring in, but we may refuse to do so during busy times.

Lounge

A multipurpose space near the library entrance. It is an open ceiling space, and concerts and events are sometimes held here. There are also 21 PCs installed.

There are major newspapers and current issues of magazines and journals. The Back issues of journals are stored in the stacks on the 1st basement floor.
Please refer to the Find Newspapers" guide page for the storage period of newspapers.
Newspapers, magazines and journals cannot be checked out, so please use them in the library.

Course Reserves for Faculty

There are textbooks listed in the syllabus. They cannot be checked out, so please use them in the library. Most of the same books that can be checked out are also available on the regular bookshelves. Language textbooks are basically only in this corner.
There are also course reserve books designated by the faculty. They are temporarily disabled for checkout for use in report assignments.

Major dictionaries, reference books, atlases, and the latest editions of statistics and yearbooks are available. They cannot be checked out.

Copy Room

Here is a self-service copy machine (coin-operated, color, with receipt output function).
Please contact the Main counter for application for photocopying of library materials, photocopier troubles. We do not exchange money.

Materials that cannot be placed on the bookshelves may be displayed.

Group Study Room

Please make a reservation for use of Group Study Room.

This room can be used for group study. It is also connected to the Group Study Room on the 3rd floor.
Use of this room is limited to Keio University Affiliates.
There are whiteboards and a beverage vending machine. Whiteboard markers can be borrowed at the Main Counter on the 1st floor.
Mobile phone calls are allowed in this room. Calls are prohibited in other areas including hallways and stairs.
*Non-reservation tables are available(by less than the maximum number of seats) if these are vacant.

Light reading materials such as hot books, practical books and travel guides are placed here.
Some books have been chosen by student volunteers (Library Friends).

This new reading room opened in September 2022.
Each seat has individual lighting and electrical outlets.

Silent Study Room

Devices that emit key touch sounds, such as laptops and calculators, cannot be used.
Please use this room when you want to study in a quiet environment. (Please do not speak up in this room.)

It is the 4th Building side in the West Reading Room. There are many individual seats separated by translucent partitions.

Language Learning Books

In addition to textbooks for learning English such as TOEIC, there are textbooks for language courses offered at Hiyoshi Campus and textbooks for learning Japanese.

4F (For faculty and graduate students)

  • This floor is available for the faculty members and graduate students. Graduate students can enter this floor only on weekdays.
  • If you are unable to enter the floor and want to use the materials on the 4th floor, the staff will take out the materials instead. Please apply at the counter on the 4th floor on weekdays and at the Main Counter on the 1st floor on Saturdays.
  • Please use the stairs in the North Reading Room on the 3rd floor to enter and exit. The elevator to the 4th floor is for the faculty members only.
  • Use of the 4th floor is 10 minutes before closing on weekdays and 30 minutes before closing on Saturdays.

Cubicles (Cubicles for researchers)

Available to Keio University faculty and graduate students.
Number of seats: 16
Hours: Until 10 minutes before closing
*Graduate students are available only on weekdays.
*Full-time faculty and staff affiliated with Waseda University can use Cubicles.
*Both faculty and graduate students are not available on the temporary opening day on Sundays.

Reservations will only be accepted at the 4th floor counter (Weekdays).
Full-time faculty/professor emeritus: In addition to application on the day, reservations can be made from 1 month in advance.
Other faculty/graduate students: Only applications on the day is accepted.

Rare Book Room

Rare books such as Chiruu Yamanaka Collection are stored in this room.
You cannot enter this room except for faculty members with permission. The staff will take out the materials.
If you wish to use the materials, please contact the Main Counter or the Reference Desk (Study Support) on the 1st floor. If you get permission to use the materials, you can use the materials up to 30 minutes before Hiyoshi Library closes (until 4:30p.m. for non-Keio members).

Microform Reader/Printer

You can view and print out microfilms and microfiches regardless of whether they are owned by Hiyoshi Library. The printout fee is 10 yen per sheet. Please contact the 4th floor counter when using.

Camera Stand

Stacks

We mainly store rarely used materials such as old paperbacks / reference books, journal back issues, statute books / law reports, and reduced size editions of newspapers in movable shelves.
You cannot check out them except for some materials (such as paperbacks).
You can get here from the stairs next to the Newly Arrived Books on the 1st floor.
Available hours: from opening time to 30 minutes before closing time

The hall can be used for classes and events using audio-visual materials, seminar research presentations, and practice presentations between students. Application is necessary to use the hall.
